ROLE: FAMILY COUNSELLOR
With thanks to funding from Rethink Ireland, we are now enhancing our
services for families and invite applicants for the role of Family
Counsellor. This will be a new role within the organisation and so we
wish to recruit a highly experienced and dynamic individual.

LOCATION: Cahir, with occasional outreach work and travel to our
Waterford Centre

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The family counsellor will work directly with families of individuals
in treatment in Aiseiri. They will be committed to supporting families
to express and explore their own feelings and supporting families to
focus on their own recovery ? regardless of the recovery status of
their loved one.
They will work as part of the Continuum of Care team to roll out a
programme of recovery education. This will include co facilitating and
facilitating family groups every Wednesday as part of Family Day,
delivering workshops and lectures, educating on issues such as anger,
healthy communications and boundaries.
The family counsellor will work with families from the assessment
stage, while their loved one is in treatment and identify, based on
need, families to support once their loved one has completed
treatment.
Support clients both in person and using IT platforms and
teleconferencing.
The family counsellor will be a key agent in identifying needs of
families, and enhancing service provision. For example, organising and
facilitating residential Family Recovery Weekends or Recovery Retreats
for Families.
In addition to individual and family counselling, they will equip
family members with new skills and techniques for mental health and
wellbeing. They will support families to move on from old unhelpful
habits and patterns.
They will signpost families to local supports and resources in their
own community such as Al anon meetings and support families to develop
a recovery support structure.
Maintain records and statistics, attend and actively participate in
staff meetings.
Integrate into the multidisciplinary team and act as a resource to the
team by offering specialist input and by representing the family
perspective.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
THE CANDIDATE MUST:
* Have an understanding of whole family recovery and understand the
diversity of family relationships.
* Have the clinical experience to work confidently with clients and
family groups and to work through challenging family processes.
* A working knowledge of the **Apply on the website** Step Minnesota
Model of addiction treatment.
* Must be a confident facilitator with experience of delivering
educational programmes or workshops on a range of issues.
SKILLS & QUALITIES:

* Have the ability to relate to and empathise with families and
treat the client group with compassion, dignity and respect at all
times.
* Be innovative and creative and ideally possess the capabilities to
facilitate wellbeing activities.
* Be flexible and innovative to establish and facilitate new
programmes. Be creative and willing to innovate to expand access to
treatment and quality of care
* Possess excellent communication, conflict resolution &
facilitation skills.
* Have excellent IT skills and be comfortable in an IT rich
environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Level 8 BA Honours in Addiction Counselling, Psychotherapy or
a related field. A qualification in family work/ counselling would be
an advantage if supported by experience of working with families and
the field of addiction recovery.
